Mike and Nina Motsinger

Todd Beth Armstrong

A Legacy of Caring and Generosity

In the heart of Washington County, the echoes of Michael J. and Nina A. (Colglazier)  Motsinger’ s altruism resonate, leaving an indelible mark on the community they so passionately served. Born on September 16, 1952, in Salem, Indiana, Mike personified dedication, embodying the values of hard work, love, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Mike attended Salem High School, where he graduated in the Class of 1970. Later, he pursued his education at IUS for two years, carving a path that eventually led him to become a half-owner of Eddie Gilstrap Motors, a thriving car sales dealership that flourished under his leadership for an astounding 40 years. His impact extended beyond business, as he immersed himself in various roles within the Salem Rotary Club, Westview Christian Church, Awareness Washington County, and the Salem Exchange Club, where he served as president. A devoted elder at Westview Christian Church, Mike's service to the community was marked by a tireless commitment to uplifting others, especially the elderly, and leaving an enduring legacy of caring, honesty, and hard work.

As President of the Board for the Washington County Community Foundation, Mike, alongside his beloved wife Nina, established the Mike and Nina Motsinger Touch Tomorrow Fund, a testament to their vision for a stronger and better Washington County. Their belief in the potential of every individual, particularly the young, fueled their dedication to creating opportunities for those who might not otherwise have had a chance in life. Their dream extended beyond the present, envisioning a legacy where the seeds they planted today would blossom into future leaders, perhaps even a President of the United States.

Nina Motsinger, born on August 21, 1955, in Salem, Indiana, complemented Mike's dedication with her own brand of compassion and community service. Nina grew up on the family farm, which was actually an orchard that had been in the family for over 100 years.  A proud graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1973, Nina's commitment to her faith and community radiated through her involvement in the Women's Study Club, Community Club #31, and her role as a Board Member of Washington County Historical Society.

Nina, a member of the Women's Fellowship at Westview Christian Church, displayed an unyielding dedication to family, spending cherished moments with her children, Jennifer and Jay, and delighting in the joy brought by her grandchildren. Her affiliation with various organizations showcased her commitment to creating a better Washington County.

Both Mike and Nina shared a common vision for the future generations of Washington County, a vision grounded in the principles of faith, education, and community support. They wanted to be remembered not only for their contributions but as followers of Christ, willing to extend a helping hand to others. Their decision to establish a fund with the Washington County Community Foundation was fueled by a desire to make a lasting impact on people's lives, particularly through education.

Mike and Nina have lived their entire lives in Washington County, both having been born at our local hospital.  Together, they leave an enduring legacy of caring, generosity, and a profound belief in the potential of every individual. Their contributions to the Washington County Community Foundation will undoubtedly shape the future of our community, ensuring that the seeds they planted continue to grow and touch tomorrow for generations to come.
