Wron and Nona Wade
As lifelong residents of Washington County since their marriage, Wron and Nona came from loving and supporting families that taught them to stay humble and to never expect recognition. Church life has been important to them throughout their lives. With faith, their strongest beliefs are to work hard and to trust the Lord.
Wron and Nona lived across the street from each other since they were little. Born in Mobile, Alabama on March 10th, 1954, Nona moved to Salem, Indiana, where she completed her education at Salem Community Schools and later resided in Canton neighborhoods for over 50 years. As the only child of Oscar and Betty Lee, she was an academically driven student and an active participant in Tri-Hi-Y, Office Education Association, and Latin Club. She graduated in 1972 and began working for Farmer Citizens Bank. After working there, Nona took three years off of work to spend more time at home. As they raised their children, Wron and Nona strived to instill in them two core values: to work hard and always think of others. She later accepted different clerical positions up until her recent retirement from GKN.
Born in Salem, IN, on July 20th, 1953, to Billy and Ruth Wade, Wron was the oldest of three siblings; Greg, JoAnna, and Mary. Wron attended Salem Schools until eighth grade and at the age of 14, moved to Decatur, IN. He graduated from Bellmont High School in 1971 and attended electronics school in Louisville, KY. As a machinist, Wron worked for Conn Electronic Organ and then continued his career at Tecumseh for 29 years before retiring in 2014.
Reunited after attending the same church, the couple dated for one year and married on July 21st, 1973. Wron and Nona share a common hobby of reading. Nona enjoys being outside, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren while Wron enjoys hunting and fishing and of course, grandchildren.
The thing that they love most about Washington County is the friendly, courteous, and caring people. “I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, I never thought about leaving Salem,” Nona said.
They have one son, Jason and a daughter, Lindsey, both of which live in Salem. In addition, they are also blessed with three grandchildren, Reagan, Flora, and Mia. Wron and Nona are both actively involved with the Canton Lions Club, Canton United Methodist Church, and Wron has served as the 4-H Sheep Superintendent.
In 2018, the Wron and Nona Wade Touch Tomorrow Fund was established by their two children to honor their parents for the endless love and support by keeping the community close to their hearts. “We are normal people who went through normal challenges and struggles in life,” said Wron. Nona added, “God has put several mentors in my path all during my life; and I hope to be a mentor to others. We are blessed with extraordinary great children and we are so proud of them, and that’s the greatest accomplishment.” Because of the generosity and kindness, they will have an eternal impact for good, forever, in Washington County.
