Pat L. Fisher
Patricia L. Fisher loved her family, her music, her flowers and horses, too. She was born in 1953 in Anderson, Indiana, where she met her husband-to-be-in July of 1969. She and Stephen, a St. Vincent Hospital Chaplain, were married for 44 years. They have two sons: Jon, the oldest, lives in Bangkok, Thailand with his wife Meg. Their youngest son, Ben, lives in Phoenix Arizona, where he works for Patricia King Ministries.
For more than thirty years, Pat worked in the insurance industry where she was a Customer Service Agent. The last twenty years, she worked for the First Insurance Group of Bloomington, Indiana. Two years ago, she was the first recipient of the “Patricia Fisher Over and Above Award” for her service to customers.
Pat sang in the choir of the Salem Presbyterian Church Choir, was a member of PEO and also planted beautiful gardens every year on Shelby Street. She loved to train her dog, Rosie and work outdoors. She grew up on a farm in Madison County, Indiana and always kept that farm spirit her whole life.
In April of 2015, Pat was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. This was the same disease that killed her mother in 2005. Pat fought her cancer with chemo treatments almost two years, but she died on March 14, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends. Throughout her cancer treatment, she had the support of her husband, Steve and many other dear friends. She especially benefitted from two friends, the Rev. Beth Walden Fisher and Becky Duncan, who gave her rides and helped encourage her through all the treatments. It is this kindness and support that led the Fisher family to establish the “Patricia L. Fisher Fund.” Its purpose is to provide some funding for patients who need transportation money for their cancer treatment. Pat wanted people to benefit as she benefited. This Fund will be administered by the Salem Presbyterian Church, where Pat sang in the choir weekly.
